This is a genealogy blog about Lizzie Snow. My intention is to have a blog about all my ancestors so I can share with other researchers what I have learned. The information is correct as far as I am aware. So please, notify me if you know of something I do not.
Lizzie Snow was my second great grand aunt. She was born Elizabeth Sarah Barbara Snow about March, 1858 to John Allen Snow(1823-1888) and Catherine Bradley (1827-1887).
She was the 5th child of 8 known children born to John and Catherine.
She died young, at the tender age of 16 years and 10 months, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on January 3, 1875. She was the second daughter of John A. Snow of the Aylmer Road. The Aylmer Road is just across the Ottawa River from Ottawa, on the Quebec side. She was born and raised on the Aylmer Road and I have no idea how and why she died in Montreal. Was she sick and taken there to a hospital? Did she die as a result of a disease or accident while visiting there?
She was buried on January 6, 1875. The funeral was held at Saint James Church in Hull. That would mean her dad would have had to convey her body back from Montreal over that 3 day period. He probably drove a wagon all the way up the Ottawa River on the ice. She was waked at her home on the Aylmer Rd. I wonder if the current owners of this house know this piece of history about their home. From here, the funeral proceeded, and although her obituary does not say, I believe she was originally buried at St. James Cemetery in Hull, because her death record is signed by Father Johnston, Canon and Minister of St. James Church, Hull.
In the late 1870's Lizzie’s parents moved to Gloucester, Ontario, settling on a piece of land that bordered the Ottawa River, and close to Beechwood Cemetery. Lizzie was moved to Beechwood Cemetery in 1884. Was that usual do you think?
